About Me
Hello, and welcome to my practice. I am Celina Trevino, D.O.M.T.P. (Can), C.M.T. My interest in health spans anything that may affect mental, physical, emotional, or spiritual well-being. I first became fascinated with the human body by researching nutrition, endocrine disruptors and vaccines. Because we are dynamic human beings, and part of nature, we are greatly affected by our physical environment, the food we eat, our lifestyles and the thoughts we think. It is up to each of us to take responsibility for our own health and wellness.
Education
My background in the formal study of the human body started with Traditional Shiatsu. I graduated from the Shiatsu Academy of Tokyo in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. My teacher, Kensen Saito, was a student of the founder of Shiatsu, Tokujiro Namikoshi.
I then studied Classical Osteopathy and graduated from the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy and Holistic-Health Sciences. I have a diploma in the Manipulative Theory and Practice of Osteopathy. Our classical osteopathic teachings were based on the experience of John Wernham, D.O., who was a student of Dr. John Martin Littlejohn. Dr. John Martin Littlejohn, a master of Physiology, was appointed by Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, the founder of Osteopathy, as the first Physiology teacher at the American School of Osteopathy. Dr. John Martin Littlejohn is credited for bringing Osteopathy to Europe and the rest of the world. Osteopathy outside of the U.S. is referred to as European Osteopathy.
Since graduating from the Canadian Academy of Osteopathy, I have furthered my studies with the Barral, Upledger and Chikly Institutes for further Visceral Manipulation and CranioSacral Therapy as well as Neural Manipulation. I have been and continue to study Neuro Sensory Motor Reflex Integration with the Svetlana Masgutova Educational Institute. I am not yet a Masgutova Method Core Specialist. I’ve also completed the Foundations Course from the Institute of Classical Osteopathy (UK).
What to Expect
You will fill out a health history form, which will include a list of your current symptoms. We will discuss your needs and goals. I begin by observing your body’s structure and posture. I then palpate (use my hands) to feel the quality of your body’s tissues. I ‘listen’ with my hands. My hands are drawn or pulled to the areas that need help. You will lie on a massage table and I will listen further with my hands to determine where to start first. Each person is unique and therefore, no two person’s sessions will be exactly the same. You can expect me to make suggestions regarding diet, exercise, lifestyle, spirituality, other modalities or give physician referrals to help serve you better.
Expect me to usually address the whole body. As an example, for a person coming in with a chronic shoulder problem, I’m not going to simply ‘fiddle’ with the shoulder for the session. The shoulders should hang nicely from the body, and this is largely dependent on what the lower back is doing. What’s happening with the pelvis, the neck, the head, the ribs, the organs, to affect that shoulder? I’m going to look at what forces are acting upon the shoulder to result in that particular shoulder problem.
